Japan

Japan is a unitary constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary form of government. In the Economist Democracy Index 2024, it received an overall score of 8.48/10 ("full democracy") and a rating of 9.58/10 for electoral processes and pluralism.

On the national level, the two chambers of parliament (National Diet) are elected directly.
